With the Battle of Britain Combat Archive Series reaching its conclusion with Volume 20, it seemed reasonable that such a series should have some form of Appendices.  The more we thought about it, the clearer the idea took shape.  Each Appendix will feature a mainly statistical record of various elements of the Battle supported by insightful text, original documents and the latest research, as in the main series.  This first Appendix features RAF Fighter Squadrons in the Battle of Britain in a page by page easy reference guide.  Each squadron page features the airfields operated from, the top 10 scoring pilots, total claims and total losses.  There are also a couple of bar charts covering the claims and losses on each day of the Battle, for that squadron.  It’s a unique guide and nicely complements the main series of books.

The statistical information has been gathered from a number of sources with the main core being supplied by Battle of Britain analyst Peter Cook.  Peter has spent over 20 years developing a stunning Battle of Britain database which is second to none in documenting the details of the Battle.

Together with Volume 20 of the Battle of Britain Combat Archive Series 22-31 October 1940 – The most significant work on the Battle of Britain in 35 years.

Most Battle of Britain authors pay little attention to October 1940, in fact, there is one recently published 96 page book that devotes just one paragraph to the entire month!

These final weeks of the Battle of Britain are therefore little known and the combats have mainly gone unrecorded.

This book finally puts the record straight with a full and comprehensive account of every combat that took place during the final nine days of the Battle.  So comprehensive in fact, that we had to increase the extent in this final volume to 160 pages.

With the usual blend of first hand accounts and all original research, using contemporary documents from both sides, author Simon Parry and his team of experts have gone beyond where most Battle of Britain books finish.  This is a worthy final volume to this ground-breaking series.
